Hello! I'm looking to buy my first car. I'm from London UK. I'm interested in Skoda Octavia from 2015 1.6 TDI manual gear 5 speeds around 109HP. How reliable are this 1.6 TDI engines? I found a few over 100.000 miles at $8000. Thank {black}:idontknow: you!

They are pretty robust. As Scotty says, they’re extremely popular in Europe.

With that said, do have it checked out by a professional mechanic, before you buy it.. They are still over engineered VAG vehicles, after all.

For what it’s worth, I’ve seen manual VW Ventos with this engine which were pushing close to 300,000 kms on the original engine.

All the best, but try to pay less..

InThrustWeTrust thank you mate! looking for something cheap to repair and for the fuel consumption! seems like this engines can run up to 80mpg. the car looks in a good shape only the engine i'm worried about! thanks for your advice!

Solid engine, well built car. They would also be on the lower end of the over engineered VW scale too. plenty of these from late 90's and early 00's still going strong with over 200k miles on the engine a box.

One question though, if you're living in London is it really necessary to be buying a Diesel? Are you going to be driving enough to warrant the costlier repairs and maintenance?

If so, look at the 1.9 Tdi if its available in your year and budget.

Conal Lane thank you! well it's crazy up here......with Ultra Low Emissions Zone and Congestion Charge i thought this Skoda Octavia would be great. 1.6 TDI have CO₂ emissions have 99/km so i don't pay road tax and it's cheap on insurance!

1.9 TDI engines were still avaliable in 2nd generation of Octavias. In 3rd generation only 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI are avaliable.

I'm not familiar if they are already Euro 6.

There is also a link which shows what to check out before buying (Click here). I'd also check EGR valve condition.

Good luck!

G.T thank you for the info much appreciated for all the help!

You are welcome!
