Hello Scotty,
Been watching your videos for many years now. Your information always comes in handy.
I have a 2002 f250 5.4L motor 163000 miles rwd.
I was driving when all of a sudden I lost power and truck felt like it was having a misfire. I was able to pull into parking lot and then It shut off. I tried starting it again but it would shut off unless I left foot on gas. I drove it home about 5 miles away and whitish smoke would come out. Once home I started taking it apart and found one of the sparkplugs was smashed as if the piston had hit it and smashed it. No codes were found.
Do I need a rebuild on the engine? Could it be jumped timing? Never seen something like this. Unless the rod somehow came loose allowed play on the piston and hence hitting the spark plug. I know these are notorious for blowing out spark plugs but this is not the case. Could previous owner have overtightened the plugs?
Sorry for the long paragraph. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Could previous owner have overtightened the plugs?
no that should be impossible.
However I've heard of Ford using badly designed two-piece spark plugs that fall apart.
I would get a compression test just for quality.
