So I have a 2012 Dodge journey and what happens is while I'm driving it won't go into second here sometimes and RPMs to go from 3 to 4:00 to 5:00 without going past 40 miles an hour and I was wondering what happened and why would be doing that but as soon as I pull over reset it it's fine what is causing this problem

Mileage? Your transmission may be dying but you would need a transmission expert with a professional scan tool to determine that. When is the last time the transmission was serviced?
