Engine revs high but car doesn't go

2002 Corolla 245k miles automatic

Aloha

I got this car few days ago. Was driving fine. And drove fine for previous owner. It always had this transmission speed sensor code since I got it. But today it starting feeling like it's slipping. Revvs high sometimes and doesn't go.

Could a bad trans speed sensor actually cause it to act like it's slipping?

I see some people say yes, and others say no way.

Seeing if anyone here has experience on these corollas with this issue.

Nah. At 245k I think the transmission is plum worn out.

especially if the previous owner ignored the speed sensor code for a long time.

You sure go through a lot of cars in just a few months.

You could check to see that it has enough fluid but unfortunately it sounds like the previous owner scammed you, probably put in some snake oil transmission additive to temporarily (very temporarily) conceal the worn-out transmission. Hopefully you didn't pay too much for the thing. Replacing the transmission will likely exceed the value of that 23-year-old car.
