Hey Scotty, I have a 1989 Mustang LX Convertible 2.3L Automatic and my Speedometer only works sometimes.
Sometimes I can start up and drive, the speedo works fine but other times it will only work after I have already started driving down the road for a bit. Sometimes, it will work by itself other times I have to knock on the front of the gauge but doesn't always fix the issue and just the needle lays at 0 km/h with no movement (I have also noticed that it will sometimes work after it shifted gears).
What do you think the problem is?

The connections inside your gauge cluster is loose.
Do you have a hunch on which part inside could be loose?

Check the connection to the speedometer motor.
