Speedometer Cable Transmission Fluid Leak

Topic starter

A friend of mine has a 1978 Chevy Impala Coupe with a V8 and an automatic transmission. He has a decent sized transmission fluid leak at the connection point between the speedometer cable and transmission. Is there an O-ring or some sort of gasket there that might have deteriorated or come out?

Is that the one that has the cool "hot wire" bent rear window?

Yep, that's the one. It's actually a 1977 after talking to him

Very cool car. I've never been a GM guy but I would definitely not turn my nose up at one of those.

I'm not a GM guy either, I had an HHR and it had issues from lousy quality at 4 years old. My Catalina's the only other GM I've owned. Pontiac was the GM brand I liked when I was a kid. I fancied the last generation Trans-Am. And for the price, I wasn't going to turn down a classic for $750, lol.
