Hi Scotty, I have an 1980 Pontiac LeMans with the 229 V6 and the metric th200 transmission not the 2004r. When in park or neutral the engine idles and revs fine but when put in gear it shutters really bad and after its driven for a while it wants to stall when braking as if it were a manual transmission. I've checked the fluid levels hot and cold and in neutral it's fine. The car has 43,000 original miles. Could the torque converter clutch be going out?
