Hi Scotty
I brought a NEW 2021 highlander about 2 weeks ago. I noticed today when cleaning dust few small spots on the roof metal part. i thought at first they were some tar and tried the TW bug and tar remover it didnt work.
Do you know what these spots are and how to remove them? here is the link to the images below:
Is this covered under warranty?
Ok, so from what I can tell it looks like railway dust. This is a common occurrence on vehicles that have been transported by train and spent some time sitting in a rail yard.
What you need to do is clay bar the car and use a good cleaning solution. Here is a link on how to do it:

The dealership will not touch it as it is not a defect and can be removed by hand. If you would prefer to have it professionally done, many auto detailers offer that service as well.
who knows it could be anything you picked up. Scrape it off with your fingernail.
No, I don't think car manufacturers cover dirt under warranty, but you can read yours to be sure.
