Starter needed for Tacoma

2012 Tacoma V6 and the starter sounds/acts like it is about to go.  Only 40k.  I am rather surprised.  Question: Any particular brand to purchase?  Any to stay away from?  Thanks.  JP

My rule is to stick with Japanese if you have a Japanese vehicle, American for American. Idk why your starter would fail so early. You can prolly find a genuine Toyota one for about $150 bucks

I tend to agree. JP

Any of the big auto parts stores, but make sure it has a limited lifetime warranty and get it tested before leaving the store.

Thanks to all.  I have never had a starter go out and especially on a Toyota.  The reason I believe it is going is Tuesday it took twice as long to turn over and yesterday, while it turned over in normal time, after the motor started there was a spinning noise that continued for a few seconds.  Never heard that before.  Does that sound like the starter is the issue?  JP

Surprizing for a TACO. Did you hit any high water areas that may have gotten water into the starter? I would crawl underneath and have somebody start it, block all your wheels just for extra safety, and listen to the noise.

No water. Very mild off-road Saturday. Yesterday it started all day with no issues. A fluke? Or maybe it is because Monday I mentioned that I really like Wranglers and it got mad? ❗ Yesterday morning I told it not to worry, I am not getting rid of it. 😆 I am just going to monitor it and see what happens and not take any further action right now. Thanks again. JP
