Steering rack 2011 Santa Fe

Hey Scotti

My wife's 2011 Santa Fe had a power steering hose crack open and leak. It had corroded and eventually gave way. My wife noticed something wrong and drove the car about 5 miles  to get home. The power steering reservoir was bone dry. The pump was so load I heard it as she pulled up in our driveway. I replaced the hose and replaced the fluid with genuine Hyundai PS4 which is what the car is supposed to get. The steering was never right after that. The pump made noise and it was harder to steer. Then the rack started leaking so we brought it to the dealer. There was still 1 month left on ten year warranty so it got fixed for free. They only changed the rack. Could driving without fluid have caused the rack to leak. I would have thought the pump would go first having been run dry.

Could I have screwed up? Just don't tell my wife. {black}

Running dry runes the pump but not the rack because no pressure goes to the rack but a spinning pump spins Air instead of oil will burn itself out from heat
