Storing manual grease gun

How do I properly store a manual grease gun with the grease catridge inside? Some suggest storing it horizontally as is and some suggest storing it horizontally and pull back the follower rod/plunger to release pressure to prevent premature wear on the spring. Thanks!

After use, I usually throw mine on a shelf where it winds up horizontal.  It's not something I stress about.

My problem is remembering where I put it.

Good one, Glen!

I just hang it on a peg hook in the garage. Never gave much thought to orientation, I don't think it makes any difference.

I put it in a bag so if it leaks out, at least it gets captured.

I store mine in a 5 gallon bucket......keeps the mess in the bucket.
