According to law, it is illegal. A lot of people do it and it depends on if you want to chance getting caught.

I personally advise against them. They sound terrible and you get noise with no tone.They are also bad for your motor. Aftermarket exhaust systems are, by far, the way to go.

Did you try searching the internet?

It's illegal in the USA.

I did its says its legal but not legal which is kinda confusing

They you will need a muffler but then what is the point of having straight pipe

CAA = Clean Air Act.
https://www.epa.gov/enforcement/air-enforcement
" The CAA prohibits anyone from tampering with an emission control device on a motor vehicle by removing it or making it inoperable prior to or after the sale or delivery to the buyer."

You might get away with it in a state that has no inspections, but even then if it's making too much noise you're likely to be pulled over and ticketed. (As I recall from what Scotty has said Texas does have inspections but his new home state of Tennessee does not.)

@ChuckTobias good point on the noise level. Many places have noise ordinances that straight pipes easily surpass. That's a quick ticket.

I'm in Texas and apparently a lot of jackasses haven't got the memo that they need a muffler. I think the cops are too busy to bother chasing them all down.
