Hi Scotty
I have an 06 yukon automatic transmission with 200,000+ miles. I was backing out of my drive in snow and had to switch to 4L. I put it in park pressed the button for it to change over and nothing happened. After that I put it back in drive to pull back up in my drive and now it won't move at all. To top it off it grinds trying to put it back in park. My question is what did I do wrong and how can I fix it?
You didn't necessarily do anything. After 200k miles things just wear out.
The transfer case has failed and needs to be replaced. This particular unit had issues with the pump wearing a hole through the case and drying out.
I estimate $1,800+ for the job.
Can't you just get a used junkyard transfer case instead?
I mean a used one probably could be $300-$450 + labor...
To go 4-Lo you needed to be in neutral not park, so you shifted into 4 lo incorrectly....Here's a copy from the owner's manual go to 2-28 to see the correct way to use the 4x4 system.
