- I have a 91 Grand Prix with 3.1 engine. The body has 270k the new motor has 30k. The transmission is original. It has no check engine light on. So I can’t use the paper clip trick. I’ve replaced the alternator, battery, knock sensor, IAC sensor, TPS sensor, and air filter. The main problem is stutter off idol and sometimes the car is hard to start. We replaced the fuel pump and it still has the same problem. Before we replaced the fuel pump it would shut off at highway speeds. I also have the check gauges light on. But none of the other lights are on.

All right you replace the fuel pump and that seems to have helped somewhat that means it's a fuel related problem so what I would assume the fuel injectors either need pressure cleaning by a pro like May or perhaps I need full replacement with the kind of mileage that engine had as I assume you replace the engine but put the old fuel injectors back on and they could easily be worn out
