Subaru opinions

Scottie, you have been sweet on Subaru's lately, but I saw on the national news here in

canada a lady with a 21/2 year old Subaru developed cracked headlight lenses. to safety approve her car, she had to replace the whole fixture for about $2000.00. Can this be true, and if so would this change your opinion on recommending the purchase of one. by the way, no accident or anything, just cracked with age. No warranty. thanks, Barry

I think OP is trying to say "2 1/2 years", as in two and a half. I could be wrong. So I'll answer for both situations. No and no.

If it lasted 21 years, you can't have any complaints. If it lasted 2 1/2 years, you have to remember that it is in a cold climate. Plastics do not like extreme heat or extreme cold.

It certainly wouldn't change my view on an entire brand.

That thing lasted longer than my father's Corolla, definitely not a reason to change your opinion on a car brand. 21 years is superb if its still running. There are other reasons Scotty isn't a fan of Subaru like the weaker automatic transmissions and boxer design etc.

If you buy smart then Subarus can be great cars in the right scenarios.

1st off that Subaru is 21.5 yrs old. That’s a vehicle that’s been around awhile and has survived the Canadian climate for years.

2nd something doesn’t add up for that replacement cost. It’s either wrong or she got hoodwinked.

this would certainly not change my opinion on the Japanese automaker. Their build quality and AWD system is exceptional. The Boxers are decent motors as well.

I agree. $2,000 to replace headlights sounds fishy.
