Scotty, while you don't hate on them, I know you are not big on Subaru. But what are your thoughts on a BRZ/86 as a car to keep for 10-15 years and 75K-125K miles?
I will be getting a new car within the next several months and want something small and fun. The Miata remains at the top of the list, but the Toyobaru is a MUCH more practical car. It also will not require the additional of a roll bar for me to run HPDE track day events (as the Miata will) and makes it a lot easier to transport things like track tires and general track day necessities.
In either case I will be buying new as in the case of a Miata I would fully expect it to be 20 year car (maybe the car I buy for myself). With the Subaru, given their engine weakness I do not want something that I do not know the complete maintenance history of and want it taken care of correctly from day 1.
They should be relatively trouble free for low usage, such as yours. If you know what to expect with Subaru engines, go ahead, but buy a manual. https://youtu.be/XeGbOksilow
Absolutely would be a manual in either the Miata or Toyobaru.
I think any modern Subaru with a manual transmission is an excellent car. I just bought a new 2020 WRX and I drove the BRZ too. They are great cars - don't beat on it too much and take care of it and it should be an awesome car.
Ditto. My experience exactly but 2018 (would have bought the brz but my wife thought the shoulder belt was too uncomfortable at her height)
Oh nice you've got a WRX too? I was considering the BRZ, but it was just too slow. Fun in the corners for sure, but I thought the WRX was a much better all-around package.
Wait for the 2022 with the 2.4 liter. Looks like just the right about of fun.
