Hey Scotty,

How long do you think a Subaru Crosstrek will last with a manuel transmission. If I bring it to a mechanic and everything is in good shape, and it has lower mileage, can it be a good buy?

Yes it can especially with a manual transmission just make sure the engine is solid and has no head gasket problems

If I get it checked by a mechanic and he says everything is in great shape and I change the oil every 4-6k miles, do you think it could last 200k miles? (Northern California)

200k easy.  My son has a 2017 crosstrek with a manual and loves it.  He does all the maintenance himself, easy.  He plans to never get rid of it (it’s his daily driver, and even if he gets a different commuter car he plans to keep the crosstrek for camping on weekends).

The motor is underpowered but simple, reliable, and CHEAP to work on (and no head gasket issues on the FB20). The manual gear box is likewise simple, reliable, and cheap.  And Subaru’s AWD system is pretty much bulletproof.

I don’t think anything is likely to go wrong, and there is not a expensive repair anywhere on the car.  And because parts are so cheap and it’s so easy to work on, there is no “worst case scenario.”
