Hi Scotty, I have a 2000 Subaru outback with 270,000 miles original engine and transmission, I make sure I check hoses for leaks every 6 months and do the maintenance myself since I love working on my cars. The tranny is automatic and shifts like a dream, I know you're not a Subaru fan but do you think it's got more to give or should I sell it before it dies.

I paid 600 bucks 2 years ago and she is still going strong... also this past winter was very snowy and this has to be the best AWD vehicle I have ever driven in snow this thing was unstoppable in snow, been driving 45 years now.

$600 2 yrs ago...and still going strong; that's pretty good.  Heck, it hasn't cost you much; keep up with the maintenance and it could last a long time, but ya never know, when a vehicle get up in years and mileage, nobody knows when it will call it quits. But to borrow a line from Scotty...keep it 'til the wheels fall off.

That's the gamble I guess...lol

You got your money's worth and you most likely won't get much if you sell it. I'd keep it (maybe as a second car) for grocery shopping and trips to the park with the kids...

Keep in mind that anything might go wrong at any moment so I would be doing some research for your next car while you take care of the Outback.

I would keep that Outback. Sounds like it's served you very well and you said it still runs great. Plus, since you like working on cars you can easily fix small issues that could pop up. If you try to sell it, I suspect you won't get much because its got so many miles and it's 21 years old. Keep driving that Subaru!

Agreed. As they say, better the devil you know.

that's what ill do

I would have another vehicle on hand to complement that one just in case.  So keep that one, but be looking for another vehicle to  buy and make it your primary vehicle.

My other is a 96 Camaro z28 that I have owned and maintained since new and I recently did water pump optispark power steering pump timing cover seals and gaskets and new not rebuild cuz Scotty said no-no on rebuilt ac pump and much more.

You might get 1500-2000 tops of you sold it. I’d drive it until the wheels fell off.
