Hello I have a metal noise when i press on my truck and it goes up and down its a 2002 ford ranger 2wd with 225k miles my phone was sitting on the tire and the noise seemed to come from behind the tire.
heres a video:
What wheel are you talking about, specifically? If you live in the rust belt and this is a rear wheel, your shock mount probably rotted off the rail and you're hearing the shock and remnant of the mount scraping the bed bottom. My '99 Ranger had this problem and rust was starting to eat out the frame.
Climb under the bed of the truck if that is where the noise is, and grab onto the shock. Give it a yank, like you're swinging out from underneath the truck. If it's broken, you will know right away, the shock will want to go with you. This is how I found my rust problem 2 years ago.
This is a more significant issue with the old Rangers. Doorman (I think is how it's spelled?) makes aftermarket mounts specifically for this purpose, along with hardware. You'll need to grind off and punch the rivets out, in order to replace the mount. Check the truck for rust.
The video was taken while my phone was sitting on the front left tire. And the truck has been in FL its whole life so no rust
Climb underneath there and have someone else bounce the truck, or, use the sway bar and do pull-ups lying flat on your back to get the front suspension to move. Listen for the direction of the noise. If it's the knocking sound in your video, it should be pretty obvious.
Jack up the truck and pull at the 9 -3 positions and 12-6 positions (side to side, then top and bottom). If it bangs on the 12-6, you have a bad ball joint.
Hello I have 2002 ford ranger 2wd with 225k miles. Every time I go fowards from a stop or backwards from a stop or am coming to a stop theres a weird metal noise. Idk if its a suspension part or maybe an engine mount. I have a video link here: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/Lg3ocBUQEnc
Can you upload the video up here? Your link isn't working.
Actually I found its maybe a suspension issue. When I bounce the truck up and down it makes a metal noise. The video was taken while my phone was sitting on the front left tire. Heres a video: https://youtube.com/shorts/a_tHfLyL6gk?feature=share
