Scotty, Love your channel. I have a 2000 Chevy 1500 Silverado 150000miles 5.4 litrev8 automatic was wondering if I should change to fully synthetic oil at this point in the vehicle life. I have been running 5w30 Valvoline since I bought the truck. I'm the 2nd owner, and purchased the truck from the original owner. Uses about 1qt per oil change every 3000 miles, runs and shifts great.

On older high meilage cars where synthetic oil has never been ised switching to synthetic can actually cause leaks. Also, I think a lot of the benefits of synthetic oil is just marketing from the oil companies. Really it is more about doing your oil changes on time than anything else.

I wouldn’t, i bought a 92 f250 and the prior owner started putting synthetic in it 3 yrs before I bought it. It had a small leak. Looked in the manual switched back to the conventional and guess what drip went away and the motor didn’t burn as much oil. I’d keep doing what your doing and keep sending it.

Don’t fix something that ain’t broke.  At that mileage and to be safe, stick with what you have been using including the brand (Valvoline).  Staying on top of the oil change intervals is the key.

If its been changed with synthetic since new, that is the best, but if not, changing your oil type could cause problems.

Stick with good ol' dino oil that you've been using.
