I recently stared hearing a tapping noise from under the hood of my 2013 Honda Accord Touring V6, 6 speed automatic transmission with 150,000 miles. What could it be, or is this normal? The car seems to run fine.
Could be the fuel injectors, or relays - what you should do is get a mechanics stethoscope (they're like $15) and use it to find out the exact source of the noise - Scotty demonstrates how to use them in several videos.
Have you had the valves adjusted as required by Honda? (Hopefully the timing belt is not original.)
I should have been more accurate Chuck. It's more of a clicking noise and it does not consistently happen. Almost sounds electrical.
An update: The clicking noise only happens after the engine has been running for 5-10 minutes, stays for about 10-15 minutes then goes away. Is this anything potentially serious? The car has been running fine. Sorry for this late response, I've been busy.
It could be serious if the valves are out of adjustment. As mentioned, periodic adjustment is required on Honda V6 engines. At 150,000 miles that service is overdue if it has never been done.
As @glen_stet mentioned it is also possible the noise is from the fuel injectors, and you can use a stethoscope to find where it's coming from.
