I have a 2006 Taurus SE 3.0 Vulcan with 145K miles on it. I gave $900 for the car 3 years ago. Now it needs a new Y-pipe due to a broken down converter. I was quoted $1000 dollars for replacement with "good" converters. Is the car worth putting that kind of money into? There must be a reason the scrapyards around me are loaded with 4th gen Taurus's?

Probably failed transmissions.

depends on the car. If you bought it for 900 then likely not.
