2002 Ford 255K
Scotty could my PATs or PCM be acting up? Is it time to look into them? I know nothing about them but research starts tonight.
I tried disconnecting the battery for 45 mins (got busy), theft light went away - just to pop itself back on later.
I tried the door pattern trick, didn't work.
Tried leaving it in the ignition in "On" for ten minutes, didn't work.
She just loves her theft light. No it's not flashing that would make me give up the ghost.
I'm worried that it being on for a long time signifies that eventually she will brick herself.
Key works, I don't know how to tell if the chip is bad. Got quoted at $150 for a new key + program but I don't really wanna shell that out if it turns out to be the PATs or PCM instead.
One day she went completely dead outta nowhere. Long story short: I disconnected her battery til the cows came home and she started up like everything was fine. Was told theft light did that. But I have zero idea how it works, Scotty, and it hasn't happened again so far.
Thank you so much and good morning to ya when ya see this!
Run a diagnostic scan
@imperator The Autel doesn't tell me anything. Unless a diagnostic scan is something else?
It needs to be an “all system “ scanner. The manual chuck provided should also have a reset procedure
@imperator Ah it's baby's first OBD lol. I love it, but I'll get a 2nd one when I can. Think I can get a good one under $100? I like Autel because I trust Scotty with my life.
Not trying to be cheap about it. This car is like a bad girlfriend. She's already gonna get alotta my paycheck lol
Saw a post that said "Either get your child into hunting or into cars and they'll never have the money to have a drug problem" it's still cracking me up
But thanks man I'll look into it
You can get a free scan at auto zone or similar
@imperator I know haha we're no stranger to that, but if I wanted one for myself, what do you recommend if ya don't mind?
Check our FAQ. It will be significantly more than $100
You didn't tell us what model 2002 Ford you're dealing with.
See the link below for Ford repair manuals. They may contain helpful information for diagnosing the security system.
@chucktobias I know and I thought Ford would be enough.
That site is awesome though thank you. I was planning on buying her a new manual someday just haven't yet.
I wish I had this site when we had the F150.
This is a terrible thing you've sent me Chuck. I'm gonna be looking at this all day. I'm never gonna get my house cleaned. Probably gonna die of malnourishment lol
