Thermostat problem

Please help me Scotty, I have a vauxhaul zafira b 1.8 liter 2010 manual. I have already replaced my thermostat 4 times in 2 years now because its stays open or the inside of it came loose(rubber).

When I replaced it everything is fine for about 4 months and then its broke again. I have put in an oem and aftermarket but nothing helps. What is the problem?

One more question, can a thermostate being damage by oil in the cooling system?

I don't think so, but if you have oil in the cooling system you have much bigger problems than the thermostat to deal with. Is there any evidence of such contamination? Is your oil level going down while coolant level rises? Is there oil sludge in the coolant?

I would say change your thermostat housing assembly because it's probably warped and then he'll keep breaking it

The housing is from plastic, could that break the thermostate? Is that stronger than the thermostate?

If the plastic housing is warped that could very well twist the thin metal of the thermostat enough to affect it. I'd wager that if you replace your plastic thermostat housing with an aftermarket metal housing, along with a fresh thermostat, that would fix the problem.

Thank you very much for your response. One more question, can a thermostate being damage by oil in the cooling system? The last time a replaced it I saw the rubber seeling was lose in the thermostate.
