Hi Scotty, I am looking to help find my girlfriend a new car as hers is toast. Her budget is 3k or less. I have struggled to find any Hondas or Toyotas in that price range that aren't hunks of junk. I have found a 2007 Chrysler 300 touring with a 3.5 L v6 and an automatic. The car only has 66k miles and one owner on the carfax. The service records seem pretty comprehensive. routine oil changes and preventative maintenance. the car is for sale at a CDJR dealership and all the maintenance was performed at the same dealership. I want to know if you think this is a money pit? if so are there any recommendations in that price range?
The 300 is one the worst vehicles you could possibly choose. Please see Scotty's video reviews at the bottom of the main page.
Look for a good Toyota like a Corolla, around years 2005 or so. Look for cars with cosmetic defects, peeling paint, small dents, things that need fixing like brake pads or broken door handles, but are cheap if you do them yourself, what you want is great maintenance records.
It takes some time and effort to the right one, but if you are careful, you can get her a car that is pretty reliable, but may need some TLC.
