Thoughts on Toyota Avalon and future SUV

What are your thoughts on Toyota discontinuing the Avalon after 2022? Also Toyota is introducing another SUV in 2023 called the Grand Highlander that is slotting in between the mid-size Highlander and Full-size Sequoia. It is going to be a unibody chassis with 3 rows of seating and also a hybrid drivetrain.

CUVs/SUVs are what people want, and they already have the Toyota Camry, and Avalon being full-size pseudo-luxury was pricier than the Camry, so it was inevitable the Avalon would eventually be scrapped.  From a purely business perspective, it makes sense.  I personally liked the Avalon and sad to see it go, but CUVs/SUVs is where the money is at.

It will only be a matter of time before all the Japanese automakers stop making their passenger cars. I mean Toyota is starting the Corolla Cross.

From a business POV, they gotta do what they gotta do.  It’s kinda astonishing though, because they created a brand new platform for a full size car.  It’s the platform the latest Mirai is based on, and now they are scrapping the Avalon?  Those two cars are on the same platform, IIRC.

Like others said, the money is in the midsized CUV/SUV.  It’s the thing these days.  Who knows, maybe Toyota will develop an Avalon CUV/SUV.

They are creating another Suv; the Grand Highlander in between the regular Highlander and Sequoia.
