Why do I hear a thud sound every time I turn off the engine?

I have a 1998 buick century with only 48000 kms on it .. recently I noticed a thud sound everytime I turn off the engine .. any idea what it could be ?

Check for worn-out 25-year-old engine and transmission mounts.

Could be an overly rich mixture is causing the engine to "diesel", run on for a second after shutting it off. Check the fuel trims with a good scanner.
