Scotty, when I start my avalanche up it makes a ticking noise. (I'm assuming lifters) after it warms up (a couple minutes) it goes away. Can I just assume it's because it's getting some age (104 k miles) the oil is just not getting pumped up to pressure and it's not a real problem ? Just warm it up and go ?
Not really "normal" at that mileage. Are you using the correct oil as per the owner's manual? Is it and the filter being changed at a maximum of 5K miles? Is your PCV valve operating correctly? I would not just automatically assume it's the lifters.
Oil gets changed once a year, only runs about 1k miles a year. Not sure about the pcv valve.. I'll have to see about checking it. Wouldn't that throw a code though ?

No. There is no sensor for the PCV valve. Though it may not be causing this problem if it's the original 18 year old part it's way past time to change it.
I can certainly change out the pcv. It has been changed before, just not sure when. Still a bit concerned about the ticking noise that fades out after a couple minutes though.

That vehicle is 18-19 years old and the ticking is probably a valve tap due to wear in the valvetrain and/or low oil pressure that takes some time to build up.
You may want to verify oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Also If you like you can post a video demonstrating the noise so we can hear it.
