As long as your getting oil pressure to the tensioners they should be working.. is it only on first start that it makes noise ? So cold starts I mean ? I’ve had a maxima with the same gen3.5 that ended up being the intake sprockets making a pretty nasty rattle most noticed in cold starts

This pathfinder has 200000 miles I change all timing components five years go when car had 130000 miles and it didn’t sound like this in fact it never made noise until about a year ago so I park the car until had time fix

You need to verify oil pressure first

Sometimes, the gasket that sits between the tensioner and the block gets covered in gasket sealant thereby blocking the oil flow to the tensioner.
