My buddy has a 2006 Dodge Charger V8 Hemi automatic 150k miles.
Was wondering why towing capacity is only 2k lbs. It's a huge V8 engine, couldn't it tow cars often weighing 2-5klbs easy?
Or is it the transmission that is too weak and could give out?
He was thinking about putting a receiver on it and towing cars every now and then with a tow bar.

Transmission, chassis, and brakes all figure into towing capacity. That vehicle was simply not designed to tow heavy loads. Your buddy is inviting disaster by trying to do so.
