Hi,
I'm sorry if this has been asked before. My 2017 Camry SE 2.5 L (120k) makes a noise at cold start and noticed it even more when I had the oil changed today with the hood up. Change oil every 5 K since I bought it in the spring and at level. I read about this being common on these engines. Can I get brief explanation of why it's common? Something to do with voting controller pin which can lead to intake cam gears needing changed eventually. Thanks.
Well, a lot of times the variable valve timing system on the cams gets a little bit worn and makes noise upon startup. It cost so much money to do it over. If it only makes it for a second, it then goes away and doesn't happen while you're driving. Most people will live with that. Because rebuilding it can cost a small fortune and often they'll go years that way
Thanks Scotty. I'm going to keep changing the oil at 5K and check it regularly as well. I hope she gets to 270 K like my last Toyota, a 13 Corolla. She was a beast!!
