When this model was introduced in North America, Toyota changed the name to "Celica Supra" when they realized that “XX” was a rating for medium-core adult movies. Something had to be changed, and that’s how the legendary Supra name was born. Because of porn. Actually some people claim the name was changed to avoid any legal conflicts with the mexican beer lable XX. Well porn or beer it is ! !

I had a 1979 lower end Celica Pre-Supra {only 4 year old at that time }.
It was a great car. I really loved it. BUT every time it needed a tune-up; I had to replace foot after foot of runner vacuum tubing. It developed vacuum leaks everywhere. [ Texas heat maybe?]
Now there is no more Datsun nor Celica.
