Toyota Corolla 10th gen diesel

Hello group, hello Mr. Scotty,

I'm considering buying a used Toyota Corolla since my old Peugeot is falling apart and it's on its second manual gearbox which is also wearing out.

I'm looking for Corolla 10th generation (2007-2012) manual transmission and I'm hesitating between gasoline and diesel since diesel ones are really popular in the area where I live (Bulgaria).

I like the diesel ones because all of them have 6 gears and I will drive a lot of highway mileage (I cannot find gasoline with 6) and they are more fuel-efficient as well.

What do you think about the diesel Corollas are they reliable, I've heard that they have problems with the injectors because of bad fuel but there are add-ons that help. They also have dual-mass flywheels, which means that the clutch replacement will be expensive but apart from that, what's your opinion/expertise :D. Is this a smart decision or I should look for the gasoline ones only.

Looking forward to hearing from you,

Kind regards,

Ivan

I heard the 1.4D engines are bulletproof. Also, avoid the robotic Multi-Mode automatic transmissions found in that generation, get the regular automatic or manual transmission.

Hello!

This generation had 2 engines in Europe, 1.4 D-4D and 2.0 D-4D.

There are two links that give you some basic info about those two types of engines:

1.4 D-4D

2.0 D-4D

Good luck!

Hello,

Thanks for replying, I took a look at the engines. Will research more about them, but the 1.4 D-4D seems more trouble-free, but the gasoline (1.6/1.8) is from what I read quite better and pretty much perfected over the years.

Thanks again!
