Toyota Highlander '04 not cranking

Hi Scotty,

I have a Toyota Highlander '04 with 158k miles in NYC. Bought it 2 years ago.

We drive the car every day for 4 miles in the city. Sometimes in the morning the car is not cranking (nothing shows up on the dashboard when I turn the key).

I have replaced the battery last year (autozone) and just had my battery and alternator tested there. No problem they say. I will retest because I believe it must be the alternator which has never been replaced and is 17 years old.

Battery terminals are looking good and cables are fixed well on the battery. What else could cause such a problem? The "no-cranking" happened twice this week. I am using my battery powered jump starter to start the car without a problem.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Stan from NYC

If your alternator retests OK than you might have a problem with parasitic drain on your battery.
