My friend has a 03 Matrix, automatic. His engine might be bad, would a engine from a 04-05 Pontiac vibe fit in it? Base model, auto.
And would a transmission, from gt model fit in a base model, like convert it to manual?
Said his car for some reason, his 03 Matrix. One day started acting like it was going into limp mode or something. Try start up one day, and one the hoses, air hose I think. Connecting to the engine from air intake, blows off. I'm like wtd, blew off soon as he started it. Then turned it off. Trans fluid seems fine, was a lil low.
So we have a 04 gt parts car with good trans, and a 03-04 base with good engine. Trying to see what we can do here to get a car running.
Thanks for your help.
Oh also is it good idea to have a 16 inch tire, and 15 inch tire on the back of the fwd vibe?
My tire blew and that was my only option, front tires are exactly same size, but differ than the back ones.
Please post each question as a separate topic for greater visibility, thanks.
When you say GT model, do you mean the XRS with the upgraded engine?

Either way, going from auto to manual (and replacing the the transaxle) would involve a lot of headaches. Please don't use different size tires on the back - it would disable your lnit-lock braking, and mess up your braking and handling in general, which would add up to a safety hazard.
@ag408548 Any Matrix/Vibe with the standard engine (not XRS) should be plug and play, certainly with the First Generation (02-07). As far as transmissions, there are a few 4wd examples with a different trans, but the regular A246E 4-speed auto and differential are the same. I'd go to some of the parts sites and compare part numbers before I would swap engine electronics, especially if the current one was working OK.

Aloha, would a 04-05 Pontiac Vibe engine fit in a 03 Toyota Matrix, like if I move over the computer from vibe? Also would the tranny fit too?
It's just a regular vibe not GT
