Hi Scotty and the members, 🙂

I am a big fan and appreciate your efforts to prevent people from getting scammed by sleazy mechanics. I have a question regarding a purchase.

I intend to buy a LC J120 series prado as it has a reputation of being bulletproof and also as a comfortable city cruiser. It will be the second car so it won't be my daily. My question is twofold,

1- What engine suits my use? 2.7tx/txl, 3.4tx,txl,tz or 4.0tz for city driving (reliability and maintenance cost wise)

2- What are some of the major things to inspect while buying these old SUVs and checking the health of recommended engine from above list as people tamper with mileage meters here a lot.

I am looking to keep the big jeep parked most of the time and use it on weekends or drive it occasionally for pleasure and i am going to buy a lower mileage one so it can last me some time.

Please answer both above mentioned questions in terms of maintenance costs, practicality and longevity.

Regards,

Salman.

In the US, The Prados are sold as Lexus GX460 and all have 8 cylinder 4.6 L gas engine (Petrol, if you will).

@yaser
Thanks for clarification. So there are no imported european, australian or japanese models? The ones i have mentioned are those. maybe someone here knows about them ?

These are the engine models I am talking about. Maybe these are found in other toyota vehicles as well as they do use the same engines in different models.
