Toyota Tacoma change transmission fluid?

Topic starter

Scotty, I have a 1995 Toyota Tacoma Prerunner. It just went over 100,000 miles (100,040) I want to change the transmission filter and fluid, should I do it? I have already purchased the Toyota fluid and filter. The transmission fluid has never been changed.

Thank you,

Jeff G

Your looking just to drop the pan?

on a 25 year old vehicle I don’t think you have much to loose if you do a total trans fluid exchange + filter removal.

Go for it.

Is the fluid dirty or dark colored? If you're willing to risk the potential for slippage / rough shifts, go for it. I did a drain and refill in my Moms '04 Highlander like 4 yrs ago and now the transmission slips and jerks a bit. Just be careful!

You'd be taking a gamble because dirty fluid can get clogged in some of the tiny passageways and that can restrict the fluid to flow properly, thus poor lubrication. And if the fluid is dirty, then don't even think about flushing it. That's a bigger gamble than a drain and refill
