I was recently looking at a 2016 Toyota highlander used at a Toyota dealership, and the guy said you have to get the timing belts changed every 100,000km. He said it's a big job and is kinda drawing me away from the highlander. We need tolook for a 7 or 8 seater used suv and 4runners are almost impossible to find. Any thoughts?

In the 2008 model year all models switched over to the timing chain. The one exception here was the Toyota Highlander Hybrid which kept with the timing belt until 2011 and then it switched over to a timing chain."

It should be a timing chain, not a belt. If you are still wary, have your mechanic inspect it and see if it is a belt or chain, and get a pre-purchase inspection done to see if its in good shape.
