Hi Scotty, in one of your videos you talked about how customers would buy an 8 speed automatic transmission car and have problems with them being so complex that they don't function well. Even with a Toyota 8 speed automatic transmission people were having problems. I myself have a manual transmission 2002 Subaru legacy L. And I noticed Toyota makes a Toyota Corolla SE with a 6-speed manual transmission option or a CVT transmission option. Would you say that a manual transmission on a Toyota would be more reliable than a Toyota CVT or especially a complex 8 speed automatic transmission why or why not? I really like manuals and wanted to know if Toyotas manual transmissions were even more reliable then there new 8 speed automatics?
YES - manuals are more reliable than automatics.
I ain't Scotty, but anyone can tell you that any reasonably well built manual will be more reliable than a modern automatic.
(especially space-age DirectShift and MultiDrive units)
Thank you. So, a 6-speed manual transmission by Toyota is better than an 8-speed automatic or CVT when it comes to longevity and reliability?
Generally - yes.
Yes, even on Toyotas. If I were getting a Toyota Corolla (in the example you cite), I personally would avoid the CVTs if I intend to keep the vehicle for as long as possible.
