Can I change my own trans fluid?

Hey Scotty. Just bought a 2019 Nissan Frontier 4cylinder 2.5L rear wheel drive. It has 42,000 miles. Was curious about changing the transmission fluid. I’ve always changed my oil in all my vehicles I’ve owned but not familiar with trans. fluid. Is it easy enough for an owner to drain or would you take it to a shop that specializes in transmission services? Thanks, Patrick

Check to see if the pan has a drain plug. There may also be a filter that requires dropping the pan to get to.

for me it wasn't worth it. It would have cost me $120 in material and an afternoon of lifting my vehicle, getting out all my equipment, awkwardly rolling around on the ground outside, cleaning up the huge mess and putting everything back away, disposing of the old fluid ....

The local transmission guy wanted $180 to do it, so it was a no-brainer. He nicely cleaned out the pan in his fancy machine, and it was all done lickety-split while I waited.
