Scotty I have a 2002 Nissan Frontier but don’t know if I should change the transmission fluid. I have 206,000 miles on the truck but the fluid has only been changed once since the time I had it, I have noticed my truck starting to feel different when changing gears I’m not sure if my transmission is slipping or delayed shifting. Do you recommend I change the fluid?

do recommend adding something like stop slip.

Scotty doesn't usually return to topics he has already answered.

Well, fact is the thing is probably getting near the end - 22 years old going on 23, high mileage, inadequate maintenance. "Stop slip" type additives are snake oil, you can't fix mechanical problems with the contents of a can or bottle.  Still it's something you might take a chance on given the circumstances to try extending the thing's life, realizing that the stuff may not work or may make matters worse. It's a gamble. To find out what's really going on you would need to take your vehicle to a transmission expert that can diagnose it with a high-end scan tool.

@chucktobias Thank you for the information!

  • You would be chancing that if you change the fluid now with that high mileage. Most Nissans have broken down by then and if you change the fluid it might start slipping bad now

@scottykilmer to be honest it not really slipping it’s just hard shifting do recommend adding something like stop slip.
