Hey Scotty so I have a question I have a 2013 Ford fusion it started leaking transmission fluid from the left axle seal I got that seal replaced but it still kept leaking. Also when the car drives in second gear there is a weird whining/grinding noise. On top of that the oil that was leaking was really burnt and they said it had metal shaving in it. I went to Ford and a bunch of local shops and all told me I needed a new transmission. I ended up getting a 6F 35 transmission from StreetSmarts for $2300 and paying the mechanic $1000 to install it. Just want to get your opinion on the process I chose to take and whether it’s the right one.
Did you check the vehicle for any codes prior to buying a transmission? What is the mileage and did you confirm that this transmission is a remanufactured one?
i did check for codes and none came up. Mechanic said it happens, he based his decision of the leak, the internal whining sound and the burnt tranny fluid. He also wasnt the only one who said it. He quoted me a similar price to rebuild my trans but said my best option was the reman one cause of the warranty. The milage is at 68k (pretty early). And i know its a reman one because the company only sells reman which are tested after to meet factory performance.
It all depends on the quality of the remanufacturer, and the strength of their warranty. Factory remans are usually the best, but Ford apparently doesn't offer them any more. (Typical Ford, obsoleting parts in a short time span).
How did you decide on the specific remanufacturer, and how strong is the warranty?
my mechanic recommened this company, said hes done business with them before and theyve never failed. They also have a 3 year unlimited mile warranty. so its not to bad
