Hello,
Transmission problem on my 1978 F-150 2WD with a 400 and C-6. All original drive train.
Engine runs and idles great. When I put the truck in drive all seems normal until the truck starts rolling forward then the engine revs up to 5K RPMs. Reverse works fine with no rev up.
Found the modulor was leaking and it has been replaced. Engine starts, idles, and runs great. So, I do not think it a vacuum issue. Trans fluid level is good.
Any ideas?
Thank you for the advice.
Quinn

You did not state mileage, fluid condition, or whether the transmission has been properly maintained over the last 47 years.
If the truck does not move in concert with the engine racing you probably have worn out forward bands and/or clutches.
