I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 2.5L that won't engage on Drive (unless I wait 30 or more seconds depending on the temperature). I have to put it on 1st gear, then work my way up to Drive while driving it. 182K miles. What could be wrong?

Have you checked the fluid? When is the last time fluid and filter were changed?
Thank you for your response Chuck. First, the fluid color seems good. I do notice that on warm the level seems to be higher than it should. Second, I've never changed the fluid much less the filter. I bought it about 5 years ago.
