Hey scotty, I got a 1999 ford ranger with 209,221 miles on it with an automatic transmission. When I try to go into park, it goes into reverse, the transmission still shifts threw all the gears fine, is it just play in the column, if so how do I fix it.

That's a common problem with the Ranger. My '99 wouldn't go into park or let me start it literally right after I bought it. Is your shift lever sloppy feeling? There's a bolt on the shift lever up under the dashboard that loosens up over time and makes the shifter loose. If it feels loose, you can get to the bolt from underneath without removing anything. Tighten it up and you should be good to go. When you or someone else wiggles the shift knob, you'll see which one to tighten.
