Transmission won’t go to park

Hey Scotty, My 02 Civic transmission won’t go to park. It’s an automatic with 65k miles. so I’m using my E-brake. I shift to park but the indicator won’t light up and if I let go of my brake the car moves freely. I replaced the transmission neutral safety switch but had same result. The one thing I notice is the shift lever is not aligned to the gear letters. It’s it possible a adjustment is needed or it’s something mechanically internal so just use the E-brake for now Thanks. I do have another transmission in my dad shop ready to put on my car if that was the case. Also this is a Japanese SLXA transmission on a Canadian built Civic that should have a BMXA transmission.

Check your shifter linkage adjustment.

Add a few more vehicle details and go to charm.li . Select the motor, transmission and trim types , from there you'll find a trove of information.
