Hey Scotty. Debating either a Ram1500 (V8) or a Toyota 4Runner. Are the newer rams rustproof or have some type of coating? Because they’re the most affordable v8 truck to get it seems and that’s what I need, but the 4Runners are pretty sweet vehicles. Any suggestions?
Yota, all day long.
No contest, get the Toyota unless you're a fan of large and frequent repair bills.
Definitely the 4Runner; I just bought one recently and I haven't regretted it a single bit. Buy one new in this market since low mileage used ones are expensive compared to new.
I'd get the 4Runner unless you trade in or sell the Ram before it hits 60,000 miles, or 5 years. If you keep it up until the warenty ends and sell it/ trade it in right before it ends you avoid any major headaches and having to deal with costly repairs.
The only reason I wouldn't say pick the Forerunner is there's a big difference in the two. Do you want an ultra reliable SUV, or a pickup truck? If you want a pickup, forget about the Dodge, get a V8 Tundra.
Just for an idea on how far down the ladder Dodge has fallen in quality, my girlfriend's parents got a fully loaded 2020 Dodge Durango with 58,000 miles on it as a rental car while their Mitsubishi was being repainted. After two years, moisture was already condensing behind the headlight lenses. Her dad has a 1998 Dodge Ram 2500 with over 200k miles on it. It has thr Cummins turbodiesel and Alison 4-speed transmission. The headlights are well beyond faded, but they're still sealed after 24 years. The body is rotted out, but the frame is solid. There's a reason Chrysler declared bankruptcy twice. They don't care about quality products.
