Trunk Latch stuck closed

Hey Scotty, I have a 2011 Nissan Pathfinder and I have an issue where my trunk is stuck closed. I can hear a lock and unlock sound from the trunk and the trunk button itself still presses down and works but the trunk itself will not release. I’ve looked online to find a fix for my specific model but could only find other models that are different from mine.

I don’t know the layout of your specific car.

Best case scenario is there is a hidden cord or plastic access trim on the inside of the rear hatch of the pathfinder. Usually located by the latch. Go inside there to unlock and unlatch it. You may have to remove trim pieces to fully access the inside of the rear hatch.

It could be the button if it is electric. Or it could actually be the latch mechanism.

Worst case scenario. You’ll have to drill a large enough hole to gain access. Either from the inside or the outside.

FWIW, I’ve never done this myself. But I have had more side door latch unable to unlatch. And a rear hatch similar to yours unable to open. I had mechanics take care of it for me, and they explained what they did in each case, simile to my explanation above.

I am hoping some more experienced folks might have more insight on this, maybe something less invasive than drilling.

I had a 2001 Sequoia may it rest in peace the trunk latch broke and I was able to open it by removing the plastic trim from inside and then unscrewing a metal plate and then manually pulling the cable with a pliers
