Should I buy this Volvo?

Hey Scotty, I'm thinking about buying a used Volvo C30. It's an Automatic 2013 T5 Hatchback with about 130K miles and it drove like a dream with no apparent issues. The OBD2 noticed no issues, and it even had great fuel trims. There's no body damage, the tires are new, and I saw no visible issues with the oil and coolant. It got a new timing belt at 107K miles, new motors, and brake pads. It's selling for 9,500$, and the dealer was a more fancy one who seemed friendly and professional. He's not okay with having the car taken to a mechanic for inspection however for whatever reason.

What're your thoughts on going in for a used Volvo's in general, and on this car? He claims that if issues are found post-purchase, he'd be happy to fix them, although I don't know if I'd believe such a claim.

well that's a red flag. If he can't give you a good reason, then he's hiding something.

It's not uncommon. Most dealers do that up here in Canada, and I have made use of it. But you're right not to take his word for it. Make sure you get everything in writing. And make sure the contract stipulates a reasonable timeframe or he'll just keep putting you off.

Thanks, I'll speak with him with regards to the pre-inspection again, and check if he'd be willing to provide some assurance in writing. I believe one month on the power train is customary in a lot of dealerships. What are your thoughts on Volvos in general?

the older Volvos have a good reputation, but the Chinese bought Volvo recently, and I wouldn't trust a Chinese car as far as I could throw one. You'd have to research the year-to-year changes though.

If he doesn't allow a pre-person inspection I would run away
