Scotty:

I live in Florida and am looking for a convertible to drive on the weekends I have been looking at BMW 428/430, MB e350/e400 and Audi a5/s5.  What do you think is best?   I have been looking at cars no older than 10 years..all low mileage but am leaning towards buying a 2016 or newer.   What is most reliable and is there anything else I should be looking at.  I am just looking for a high fun to drive quotient..  most cars I am looking bat are at dealers but am still looking for a private party sale .

PS ..a friend of a friend has a 2011 saab convertible with 20k miles..thoughts..

Thanks,

Bob

How much $$$ are you willing to blow, on this exercise?

Do you ever intend to go beyond the warranty period?  If so, I would reconsider getting any of them.  I would just lease and get out of your system and then return before the warranty expires.  All of them are over-engineered German machines so it’s best to lease them;  in that case (lease), get whichever one you like best.

Looks like you are looking for a impressionist-type of convertible. All the ones you listed will suffice (skip, though, Saab outright!). You can, of course, upgrade to, … say, Lexus LC500, for example.

But, … if you just want to have fun, … enjoy a convertible driving on its very own merit, just get a Miata, … any Miata! New, used, … just get one but not trashed, if you choose a used one. And than, … just go and trash it if that’s what makes you grin!

If you want a drivers car that will last, the Miata is the way to go.

I can't recommend any of your options as they are notorious for having expensive problems.

You could also see if you can find a mustang convertible but make sure that it is not beat the heck up. Have a mechanic check out any car before you buy it. Best of luck!!
